Being a beginner photographer can be hectic and upsetting sometimes. After all, there’s a lot of things that can go wrong and a lot of things that can make you frustrated at the end of the day.

You try harder every time to go for a perfect shot. Well, that’s how you develop and grow your skills. But you may keep on repeating these common photography mistakes.

Mistake 1: Take care of the Crooked Horizon

Bended Horizon or a crooked horizon, it’s a tiny mistake, but it can simply ruin the beauty of the image. No matter how perfect the setup of the shot is, it will lead that photograph to go into the list of “unsuccessful” shots.

There may be tons of reasons for the bended horizon, you might be holding your camera incorrectly or you’re simply rushing for the shot. In other cases, you might shake or tilt the camera while pressing the shutter button. Likewise, you’re on the wrong side of the frame and framed the horizon wrongly.

Whatever the cause of the crooked horizon, there are plenty of solutions. You can easily adjust the alignment in post-processing using software like Photoshop or Lightroom. Similarly, you can use a tripod to adjust the level of the horizon. Likewise, you can use the grid or guide of the rule of thirds to adjust the horizon perfectly.

So, to conclude this point, there’s no excuse for taking crooked horizon shots.

Mistake 2: Not aligning the vertical lines right

Just like the horizon, there’s a vertical line in photography that not correctly align can ruin the beauty of photographs. Besides, there are different types of leading lines in photography that upon mastering each will not only give you new height but also help to uplift your overall photography skills.

The reason for bending or crooked or not aligning the vertical lines is similar to mistake number one. It can occur if you hold the camera incorrectly or shake the camera while clicking and framing the frame incorrectly.

If you wonder about the solution, then it’s similar to above. If it’s about vertical lines only, then try to make it to center and keep it straight. It will not only help the photograph to be balanced. Besides, there’s one special rule of leading lines, you just follow the lines. Yeah, you heard it right, just follow the lines, frame it nicely and see the result.

Mistake 3: Blurry Photographs

Unlike other photography mistakes, Blurry Photographs is somewhat critical. Some mistakes can be edited or adjusted through post-processing, but If your image is blurry, then there’s nothing you can do to fix it. So, you have to be very careful while clicking blurry photographs.

The main reason for getting a blurred image is that there isn’t enough light reaching the sensor which leads the camera to struggle for a sharp image resulting in blurry shots. There are various ways to overcome this problem. The most common one is using a tripod or monopod in low light conditions. Another way to eradicate this problem is to use a higher ISO setting and higher shutter speed. Similarly, you can use the depth of field for sharp focus images. If you are suffering from shallow depth of field, then try adjusting your aperture into a small number.

Mistake 4: Trying to shoot in Manual Mode

One of the most common and big beginner photography mistakes that you can easily avoid is stopping shooting at manual mode all the time. I know if you want to be a good and professional photographer then you must use manual mode while shooting, but not every time.

Remember, you have just started your photography journey, if you indulge in manual mode every time, then you will not only miss the wonderful and meaningful shot, but it will lead you nowhere. It’s very hard to adjust a manual setting, set your composition right, and try to get the right exposure shot. So, take one step at a time. Don’t hurry, start with Auto mode, and gradually move to use Aperture Priority mode, focus on composition rules and gain more confidence.

Once, you're confident enough, you can switch to any mode you want. But if you have just started, don’t ruin it, take one step at a time.

Mistake 5:  Not following the Photo Composition Rules

Composition Rules of Photography, it’s the heart of photography. Without these, all the photographs are nothing but the snap of scattered elements. Composition rules help to arrange these scattered elements in such a way that it looks very pleasing and aesthetically nice to our eyes. So, not following the composition rules can be the beginner's biggest mistake. If you think, you know everything from the very beginning or think you have your perspective towards everything and can click images from a different angle, then you are walking in a wrong path.

At first, learn to master the composition rules of photography. Whether, its Rule of Thirds, Golden Ratio, Framing, Fill the Frame, Balance, Leading Lines, or Patterns, these all photo composition rules teach something different and interesting. Forget everything, just try to click photos following one of these rules, you will be astonished by the result. After all, these all rules are in practice from the ages and it is very pleasing to our eyes.
